Take-Home Activity
👩🏫 Session 1
During this session, students will review concepts of attraction, sexual orientation, sex assigned at birth, gender identity, and pronouns. We'll watch and discuss two short animated videos. The first video is Range of Gender Identities by Amaze, and talks about the concept of gender as a spectrum, and differentiating between sex assigned at birth, gender identity, and sexual orientation. The second video is Jim's Introduction to Gender Identity (also by Amaze) and focuses on a teen's emotions when he learns a childhood friend is transgender. Both videos serve as engaging starting points for further discussion.
👩🏫 Session 2
Session 2 will start with a group activity in which small groups sort the changes of puberty into a Venn diagram to review the physical, social and emotional changes of puberty. We'll then shift our focus to the anatomy and physiology of the genitals, reproductive organs, the menstrual cycle, menstrual symptoms and supplies, and how these organs change during puberty to allow for reproduction. We'll also watch a short animated video called Menstruation: What to Expect.
👩🏫 Session 3
This session will focus on reproduction, including assisted reproductive technology. Students will work in groups on an activity called Order of Operations: Human Reproduction putting in order the "steps" of human reproduction.
👩🏫 Session 4
This session focuses on consent, bodily autonomy, and sexual abuse. Students will watch and discuss a short, animated video about a fictional child who is sexually abused by an adult he trusted. We will also examine a scenario about a coach and player that explores boundaries and the dynamics of power and authority between adults and kids.
